PM orders Foreign Minister to Continue Working for Justice for Cambodia and Cyprus

Phnom Penh: Cambodian Prime Minister, Hun Sen, has ordered Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn to continue diplomatic relations with Cyprus in seeking justice for him as well as Cyprus.

Speaking at a cabinet meeting this morning, Hun Sen ordered Prak Sokhonn to work with the Cambodian Embassy in China to liaise with the Cypriot Embassy there, and to further assign a notice letter to the Cypriot government to respond to and cooperate with Cambodia. He also ordered to send the letter to European Union embassy, as well as European member states, and the United Kingdom, because The Guardian is a UK based newspaper.

He said: "If necessary, HE Prak Sokhonn or HE Keut Rith will meet with the Minister of Foreign Affairs or the Minister of Justice (Cyprus) through video link to talk clearly about the matter. [...] It’s not a small thing! "Related to that, a national leader who has been slandered globally, it is also damaging to the Cypriot government."

On October 6, Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn sent a letter requesting the cooperation of Cyprus Foreign Minister Nicos Christo Drides to find out the truth about allegations that Hun Sen was among thousands of non-European citizens who had received Cypriot passports.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Koy Koung told EAC News that Cyprus has not responded to the request for cooperation yet.

On October 3, the British newspaper The Guardian reported that " the Cambodian Leader, Hun Sen, was discovered to have been among the thousands of non-Europeans who received a Cypriot passport." However, after a backlash from the Royal Government of Cambodia, the newspaper edited its article to "Some members of the Cambodian leader Hun Sen’s inner circle, were discovered to have been among the thousands of non-Europeans who received a Cypriot passport."
